Daily Email - Friday - 4/10/2026

I’ve been really into the concept of a “Friday treat.”

Not a reward for doing something amazing – just for getting through the week without (fully) losing it. That alone deserves a coffee, a happy hour drink, your favorite takeout, etc.

So if you needed permission, here it is.

And if you want to level that treat up just a bit… we’ve got you:

We’re giving away tickets to the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance next weekend. It’s basically a lineup of the most beautiful cars you’ve ever seen, parked right along the Pacific like they know they’re better than us. Enter to win!

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • If you’ve been needing to scream your feelings in a dimly lit room with strangers, start here: Sincere Engineer, 7/17 at Soda Bar. It’s Midwest emo, but make it self-aware and a little feral.

  • I randomly saw B Side Players open for Ozomatli last year and immediately understood why people ride for them so hard. These local legends have quickly become my favorites. See them live for Cinco de Mayo at Lou Lou’s!

  • I don’t fully know how to explain Shinyribs without sounding like I’m making it up, so I won’t. Just know, Belly Up on 7/8 is for the people with music taste that’s all over the place. You won’t regret it.

  • Siddhartha is bringing the Tu Y Yo Tour to The Observatory on 8/7. He’s been a staple in Latin indie for years – super polished, emotional alt-rock that will have you sat.

  • Before you keep scrolling – take a gander at all the other just-announced shows dropped this month!

FREE FUN FRIDAY (AKA: A BUDGET-FRIENDLY FRIDAY TREAT)

Realistically, you’re going to spend money this weekend.

But you don’t have to spend it everywhere. There’s enough free stuff happening around San Diego right now to balance it out nicely.

We made the list. No financial hangover included.

THE LOCAL’S LIST: LOUD ROCK SPOTS WITH JACOB

Need a Loud Rock Show? We Know a Guy.

Meet Jacob Luna. San Diego musician, Queen’s Luck guitarist, professional amp abuser, and the kind of dude who somehow ends up either on stage or in the front row every single night. If a show’s actually popping off, he’s already sweating through it.

For this week’s Local’s List, he’s sharing his 5 go-to spots for loud rock in San Diego – Soda Bar, The Casbah, and a few others that don’t miss. Plus, what’s been hitting lately and what’s coming up.

If you’re trying to find something worth your night (and your hearing), start here.

Got a take on San Diego? Think you should be featured? Nominate yourself (or someone else) and put us on.
