Happy Friday. Happy Treat-day? All I know is it's almost the weekend, and we are happy about it!

Quick life update: I’m officially on the hunt for an intern. If you (or someone you know) is into writing, meme-making, event discovery, and all things SD, come hang. You’ll help cover the best stuff in San Diego and shape the voice with me.
I’m cool to work with – promise! Details here.

Now for your reward for making it to Friday: we’re sending you across the border. Yep. We’ve got tickets to the sold-out Unknown Mortal Orchestra show at Marko Disko in Tijuana. It’s an easy trip south and just reckless enough to be a great idea. Enter to win if you are feeling crazyyyy.

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • Sir Woman started as a side project from Wild Child’s Kelsey Wilson, but it’s kind of taken on a life of its own. More groove, more range, way more focus on her vocals. Catch them on 6/10 at Quartyard.

  • If your brain has been a little too loud lately, this is the reset. Alela Diane and Shannon Lay play Soda Bar on 8/12 for a powerful night of intentional songwriting and mellow energy.

  • I don’t even think this one needs explaining. If his music means something to you, you’re already thinking about going. Cristian Castro, 11/27 at Pechanga Arena.

  • Call it a progression: Spoon Benders gets you in the door, then it’s The Sword and Red Fang back to back, which is basically a lesson in how heavy can go. Ride that metal wave at Soda Bar this August.

  • April is almost up! Check out all the just-announced shows from this month before the list resets for May!

Just your quick end-of-week reminder that you don’t have to regret your spending decisions on Monday.

I’ve been trying (and failing) to spend less, but this list is making it easier.

I rounded up a bunch of free events happening around San Diego, so you can go out and still feel like you have your life together.

TONIGHT

- DAYGO NIGHT MARKET at NATIONAL CITY (free entry)

- ARI LENNOX at SOMA

- CHEAP TRICK at HUMPHREY’S CONCERTS BY THE BAY

- LA JOLLA CONCOURS D'ELEGANCE at LA JOLLA COVE

LOCAL’S LIST: BEST PRE- AND POST-SURF SPOTS WITH SAM

A “quick surf” that somehow eats your entire day? Yeah… that’s kind of the goal.

Meet Sam Mitchell. San Diego-based founder, ocean regular, and the brain behind roo.bru and ZALT – aka someone who’s figured out how to build a life where surfing isn’t a break from the day, it is the day.

For this week’s Local’s List, he’s lining up his 5 essential stops for a properly dialed surf routine – where to caffeinate, refuel, recover, and inevitably post up longer than planned. It’s less “grab a coffee and go” and more “lean all the way in.”

Because the truth is… a good surf day isn’t just about the waves. It’s everything around it that makes it hit.
