Friday, hallelujah! AND welcome to May!

This is the month where things start picking up speed. Summer’s right there, Mother’s Day sneaks up on you, and if you’ve been saying “I should really do more stuff,” this is your sign.

Because truly…the month is not gonna live itself.

Before I send you off into the weekend, here’s something to look forward to for NEXT weekend: Gator by the Bay is back at Spanish Landing Park, and it’s giving full Louisiana energy – like someone dropped Mardi Gras directly onto the San Diego waterfront. Enter to win tickets to start May off right!*

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • If you’ve ever enjoyed aggressive synths and yelling as a lifestyle choice, you can thank Nitzer Ebb. They’ve been doing this since the ‘80s, and they are keeping the energy going on 9/6 at Music Box.

  • Petco Park is going full country mode this August – Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and a whole lineup of boots-and-beer energy. Early 00’s country lovers are crying, screaming, and throwing up over this.

  • Devotional + NAILS at Casbah is one of those bills where you already know it’s gonna get loud. Blink, and you might miss a song – mostly because they play them at warp speed.

  • The Music of ABBA without the plane ticket to Sweden? I’ll take it. This tribute show is spot-on, and yes – you will know every single word by song two. Win tickets + a hotel stay and fully commit to the bit.*

  • Check out all the just-announced shows for April before I reset the list on Monday!!!

WHERE TO HEAR DANCE MUSIC ACCORDING TO JULIAN ORTEGA

San Diego’s dance scene is deeper than it looks; you just have to know where to go (and who’s behind the decks). SD-based producer and vinyl DJ Julian Ortega lives in that world, and put together his go-to spots for proper dance music – dialed sound systems and crowds that are actually there for the music. Get familiar.

Got a take on San Diego? Think you should be featured? Nominate yourself (or someone else) and put us on.
