Happy Monday, San Diego!

I’m coming off a birthday weekend that somehow ended with my boyfriend’s band playing in my living room. Like… full set, amps, the whole thing.

I feel very loved, slightly tired, and not ready to be a normal person again.

So I’m already looking for the next thing to get excited about – Lowertown: Ugly Duckling Union Tour is hitting Quartyard on 5/31. Enter to win a pair of tickets.

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • Steph Tolev headlines a stacked Belly Up night on 5/25 alongside James Davis, Feraz Ozel, and a deep bench of comics. If you like your stand-up a little chaotic and actually funny, this is a solid bet.

  • If you only know Geese from the early post-punk buzz, they don’t really sound like that band anymore. The Petco Park show on 10/13 should lean into their newer, bigger, slightly ragged rock direction.

  • There’s been a steady rise happening with The Red Clay Strays, and this tour kind of confirms it. They hit Pechanga Arena on 9/16 with that raw, roots-heavy sound that lands live.

  • It’s the last week of April! Check out the just-announced shows from this month before the list resets for May!

DOG-FRIENDLY SAN DIEGO GUIDE

The only thing I like more than San Diego is animals (hence why I'm a vegetarian).

I don’t have a dog – yet – but I’ve never once been annoyed about being around one.

So I made a list of the best dog-friendly spots around the city. Partly to be helpful, mostly so I can increase my chances of petting your dog. Sorry, not sorry!

THIS WEEK

4.27-4.29 - SAN DIEGO PADRES VS. CHICAGO CUBS at PETCO PARK

4.29 - THE BUENA VISTA ORCHESTRA at BELLY UP

4.30 - PRIDE & SEEK: THE QUEER COMEDY SHOW at MIC DROP COMEDY

LOCALS ONLY

  • There’s a Songs in A Minor listening room popping up in Logan Heights (4/28–4/29), hosted by Future Is Color. Small room, curated sound, no distractions. Also – Alicia Keys has been involved in SD a lot recently, so… who knows, she may show face!

  • Slightly Stoopid is throwing out the first pitch at Petco Park today before Padres vs. Cubs. If you’re already downtown, that’s as good an excuse as any to get inside early.
