Daily Email - Monday - 5/18/2026

Happy Monday, my weekend survivors.

This weekend, I really committed to balance. A little socializing, a little rotting peacefully. I watched friends DJ at Quartyard, wandered the La Jolla Farmers Market, lay in the park for a crazy amount of time, watched movies, did crafts… honestly, very healing behavior.

Unfortunately, it is Monday now, BUT I do come bearing treats.

Concert for Hope & Peace hits Belly Up on 5/31 with an insanely talented lineup of Southern California musicians, including Laura Chavez, Chloe Lou, Lisa Sanders & Brown Sugar, and more. The night supports the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties along with local outreach organizations, which makes this one feel extra special. Enter to win a pair of tickets!*

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • Before music fully took over, Shakey Graves was acting on Friday Night Lights. Now he’s out here selling out theaters with songs that sound like they belong around a campfire after two beers. Catch him at The Sound on 10/16.

  • At some point every cool garage band either gets too polished or disappears completely. Guantanamo Baywatch has avoided both. Their Soda Bar show on 7/23 is built for people who like sticky floors and loud guitars.

  • Dylan LeBlanc’s dad used to tour as a session drummer for Muscle Shoals artists, so the man was basically raised inside Southern music history, whether he liked it or not. Casbah on 7/12 is bringing that heavy late-night highway energy.

  • Before “Chuck E.’s In Love” made her famous, Rickie Lee Jones was living in her car and playing tiny LA clubs. Now she’s one of the most influential songwriters of the last 40 years. See her live at Belly Up on 10/6.

  • What are you waiting for??? There are more just-announced shows where that came from!

Australia’s Thunder From Down Under is pulling up to Sycuan Casino Resort this Saturday with abs, accents, and enough chaotic girls’ night energy to temporarily erase your frontal lobe. Birthdays, bachelorettes, random Saturday decisions… this is the place to be.*

LOCALS ONLY

  • Saw this and immediately went “wait… this is adorable, have to tell my readers.” Brunch & Art Market is back at Dear Tomorrow on Sunday with pancakes, local vendors, music, community hangs & more.

  • Big local update: San Diego City Council voted unanimously to rename Cesar Chavez Parkway to Chicano Park Boulevard. The new name honors the history, murals, culture, and community rooted in Chicano Park in Barrio Logan.

  • Sending love to San Diego’s Muslim community after today’s horrifying shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Authorities are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime, and local leaders are urging people to avoid spreading misinformation while the community processes an incredibly painful day ❤️‍🩹. I’ll do some digging on ways we can help our community through this extremely disappointing and devastating time
