Hiiiii y'all! I'm back from the jungle.

First things first: I hope you had fun with your babysitters while I was gone. I had the best time exploring Costa Rica for the first time and highly recommend it if you've never been…especially if you're an animal person. Between the monkeys, sloths, toucans, and whatever other creatures were screaming outside my window at 5 a.m., I was in heaven.

Before we move on, I need to clear something up. Kelly completely downplayed her role around here in Friday’s newsletter. Long before I was writing these newsletters, she was building the blueprint. She walked so I could run, and she's been crushing it ever since, which is why she's now leading content managers across every DoStuff metro. Credit where credit is due.

Okay, enough sentimental nonsense.

I'm happy to be back in the U.S., and what better way to celebrate than by immediately looking ahead to the most American holiday on the calendar? Almost Nakey is throwing Freedom Fest at FIT Social, and we've got a pair of GLIZZINATOR VIP tickets with your name on 'em. Enter to win!

JUST ANNOUNCED

  • Date night deserves better plans. Join DoSD MORE for tickets to great shows and more reasons to actually lock something in. $50 for 12 months.*

  • Ten years later, and Flamingosis still sounds like the musical equivalent of finding a $20 bill in your pocket. Catch the Bright Moments anniversary show at Quartyard on 10/23.

  • Not all electronic artists survive the hype cycle. Mall Grab came out the other side bigger than ever. See where the hype stops and the talent begins at SPIN on 8/8.

  • Ironically, I spent a good chunk of my Costa Rica trip listening to UB40. I come home, open my inbox, and find out they're headed to Viejas Casino on 8/13. A sign? I choose to believe so.

  • June is moving so fast! Check out all the just-announced shows this month!

The 10-Minute Responsible Thing

Life insurance is easy to avoid, because it’s really not that fun to think about. If given the choice, we’d prefer to use our brain power imagining a horse wearing a cowboy hat… But this needs to be done.

Ethos makes the insurance of life a lot easier to deal with. You answer a few health questions online, skip the medical exam altogether, and most people get approved the same day. Every plan includes a free will, so you can knock out two of life's least fun tasks at once. Policies start around $54 a month*, and more than 500,000 families have already gotten covered through them. If people depend on you - a spouse, kids, parents, a horse wearing a cowboy hat, anyone - it’s one of the most assuredly useful things you can take care of in about 10 minutes.

*Sample rate: 10-year term $1M life policy for 40 y/o healthy, non-smoking male.

LOCALS ONLY

  • You've probably driven past it a hundred times. Now's your chance to see the inside. The La Jolla Temple is open to the public through 7/11 for the first time in 33 years.

  • ICYMI: NASCAR made its San Diego debut this past weekend (and yes, Kelly was there covering all the action). Apparently turning Naval Base Coronado into a racetrack was successful enough to warrant a sequel! Organizers are already hoping to return in 2027.
