NEW MONTH WHO DIS!!! 🎃

October has arrived, which means the Padres are keeping us emotionally alert, and San Diego's weather is sending extremely mixed signals. Heat wave, but also bracing for El Niño?? Very spooky of her. Can’t let ’em know your next move.

But GREAT NEWS: Halloween is on a Saturday this year, and the clocks fall back in the early AM on 11/1. So if your plans involve letting the freaks run wild, the universe has quite literally given you an extra hour. Use it irresponsibly.

And if October is already asking us to get a little weird, here’s an appropriately weird night out: BEAT brings Belew, Vai, Levin + Bozzio together to reimagine the music of prog-rock legends King Crimson live.

They hit San Diego Civic Theatre 10/11, and I’m giving away tickets! Enter to win!*

JUST ANNOUNCED

• Bagpipes in a punk song should not work this aggressively well, but Dropkick Murphys have been proving otherwise since 1996. Catch them with Spiritual Cramp + Home Front 2/7 at The Sound.

• New album, same Texas-country lifer. Wade Bowen’s been releasing records for 20+ years, and The Version of Me You Get is the latest excuse to catch him live 2/18 at Belly Up.

• For the uninitiated: PBR is basically eight seconds of somebody making an absolutely insane career choice. Stay on the bull until the buzzer, earn a score. See the pros try 2/5–2/6 at Pechanga Arena.

• Siblings Olivia Hardy + Will Gao grew up classically trained, then apparently decided genre boundaries were somebody else’s problem. Wasia Project brings its piano-pop/electronic blend to House of Blues on 3/5.

• Fresh month = a fresh reset of the just-announced shows page! Keep up with the shows that drop all month long!

FALL BUT MAKE IT ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE FALL: GO VISIT JULIAN, CA

OKAY I KNOW. THE FALL GUIDE IS STILL COOKING. I’M SORRYYYYYY. 😭 She’s almost done, I swear, and you WILL get the whole damn thing this week like promised.

For now, let’s start somewhere very seasonally appropriate: JULIAN. Apples, pie, mountain air + enough fall energy to tide us over..

THIS WEEKEND

When Your Pet Needs to Borrow 10 Grand

Table legs get scratched up like they owe the cat money. Shoes are dragged under the couch like the mob disposing of a “package.” These are routine costs of pet ownership; a $10,000 surprise emergency surgery is not. Unfortunately, things DO happen, and you most assuredly DO want to be prepared for them. Pet insurance can help you offset some of these costs by providing up to 90% reimbursement, with plans starting at $10/month. Click below to find the right plan before your animal invents a new way to bankrupt you.*
