HAPPY THURSDAY!!! I’m getting a little sincere for a second, don’t panic.
I genuinely love what I get to do every day. My job is basically to find reasons for you to leave the house, know what’s happening, support cool people + maybe laugh at something stupid I wrote before noon. (Sorry for swearing sometimes) (kinda sorry).
But my favorite part is the little community that’s formed around all of it. You guys go to the shows, support local stuff, send me photos, tips + stories, and somehow keep showing up for all my nonsense every day.
So really, thank you. ❤️ If this email gives you one tiny break from work, one thing to look forward to, or one reason to smile, I feel like I did my job.
And sometimes, if I’m really doing my job, I also get to give you free sh*t.
Today: The Iron Maidens at Music Box on 1/16. Enter to win a pair of tickets.
JUST ANNOUNCED
There are concerts you politely enjoy, and concerts that make you walk out feeling 10% hotter and significantly less employable. Queens of the Stone Age feels like the second kind. Get hotter at Viejas on 5/1.
Not every dance floor needs to feel like you’re being attacked by lasers. Sometimes you just want something warm, funky + impossible not to move to. The cure: PillowTalk at Quartyard on 11/22.
The week between Christmas and New Year’s is fake anyway, so you might as well spend two nights with Steel Pulse. They take over Belly Up 12/29 + 12/30.
I would not personally trust anything called Subtle with Eric André’s name attached to it. Which is probably exactly why you should go. He hits The Magnolia on 6/27.
+ the full list of shows announced in October here!
SO WTF ARE WE DOING WITH THE KIDS?
OKAY PARENTS, I am SO sorry this took me approximately 400 years. As someone with zero children (one if Goose counts), I really wanted to make sure this was actually useful and not something the keepers of the little people would open and immediately go, “girl, what is this?”
So I researched, collected your recs + finally finished the How To Do San Diego With Kids Guide.
Huge shoutout to everyone who sent me suggestions when I asked last month. Y’all helped a ton. ❤️
Take a look + tell me what I missed!

FIND BISQUITTE A HOME
TODAY’S LITTLE LADY: BISQUITTE ❤️ She looks like the kind of dog who would apologize for taking up too much room on your own couch. This 4-year-old sweetheart takes a minute to warm up, but once she realizes you’re safe, the tail starts wagging, the chin becomes available for scratches + the personality comes OUT. Her preferred friendship strategy is basically no pressure, snacks and letting her come to you. Honestly, relatable. She’s looking for a patient home with kids 6+ who can give her a nice, slow start. Find Bisquitte at SDHS’s Oceanside Campus. |
LOCALS ONLY
San Diego’s debate over Flock license plate readers is moving forward. A council committee voted 4-0 to end their use, but the full City Council still has to decide.
One less Election Day logistics problem: North County Transit is free 11/3. You don’t need to show proof you voted, and the offer is open to everybody.
Job hunting is hard enough, so this is genuinely cool: free haircuts, interview clothes, showers, résumé help + employers actually hiring all come together at Spring Valley Library 11/4. Learn More.
