HAPPY THURSDAYYYYY!!! The weekend is finally visible from here.

Today I’m working from Second Nature, aka one of those rare places where I can get coffee, find an outlet, sit down without entering a territorial dispute + actually accomplish something.

Which makes telling all of you about it an objectively terrible decision for me personally. 😂

But you know the rules around here: if a local spot is doing something right, I’m gonna yap about it. Even if that means Future Faye is standing by the door with a laptop and nowhere to sit.

Anyway, while I’m apparently giving away all my secrets today...

Let’s give away something else: TEMPER FESTIVAL hits Petco Park 12/30, bringing Zeds Dead, Levity, Whethan, Tiffany Day + a massive lineup across multiple stages.

And I have a pair of tickets for one of you. Bad day to be something I’m supposed to keep to myself… Enter to win!

JUST ANNOUNCED

• Fresh off Transmutations, a whole collection of remixes + new oddities, Purity Ring is taking the project where it belongs: a dark club with loud speakers. Time to dance at EQ on 2/27.

• There’s a very specific kind of indie rock that makes you want to drive the coast and reconsider several life choices. The Palms have that covered. See them on 4/6 at Belly Up.

• Ska has survived several alleged deaths, and Save Ferris remains excellent evidence. The third-wave staples bring the horns + chaos to House of Blues on 2/13.

• City of the Sun’s new Under the Moon wanders through surf rock, desert rock, spaghetti-western guitars + Mediterranean rhythms without needing a singer to explain any of it. Get on their wave at Casbah on 2/1.

• All the shows that will be announced this month will always be in on place for you to check on! See the full list here!

YAY SPORTS!

Yes, the Padres are done. Yes, San Diego still does not have an NFL team. No, this has never stopped us from yelling at televisions.

Football is in full swing, basketball is back + somebody is always playing something. Here are the sports bars doing it right.

• Not into sports? Try a Happy Hour!

Monthly To-Do: Help Families in Crisis With CARE®

This one doesn’t need a ticket or an RSVP. When hunger, conflict, or disaster hits, families need help long after the news moves on, and a CARE®️ monthly membership keeps food, clean water, and medical supplies arriving the whole time. CARE has been doing this for 80 years, and 97% of its staff live in the countries and regions where they work, so your gift gets there fast and sticks around. Setup is simple, and the gift is tax-deductible.*
