HAPPY TUESDAY!!! Except I have spent all morning absolutely convinced it’s Wednesday, so things are going GREAT over here. 😂
On a much sweeter note, every year around this time, I put together a Día de los Muertos altar for my little neighborhood community. My neighbors and I are really close, and it’s become one of my favorite ways to create a space where everyone can stop by and add to. Here is what it looks like so far.
I grew up around people close to me who shared this tradition with me, and I try to carry it with the same respect it was taught to me.
This year feels especially tender because our neighborhood lost quite a few doggies, so I really wanted everything ready in time to remember them too. ❤️
I don’t know, I just really love the idea of grief getting to be communal for a minute. You bring a photo, somebody else brings flowers, and suddenly nobody is remembering alone.
And now, because this newsletter contains multitudes, we are going from community remembrance to sending somebody to Nashville.
You + a guest could fly out to see Craig Morgan at the Ryman Auditorium on 11/7, complete with round-trip airfare, two nights at the Fairlane, dinner, a meet & greet + signed CD. Enter to win!*
JUST ANNOUNCED
The next Jesse & Joy chapter is going to look a little different. Joy Huerta is carrying the songs forward into 2027, with El Amor de México landing at Petco Park on 4/18.
For everyone who assumed they had permanently missed their chance to see Tally Hall live: well, apparently not. After more than a decade hiatus, they hit Belly Up on 5/1.
A quick website PSA that I want to make known: the new DoSD lets you search smarter, save stuff, check parking + transit, hear the artist, and find DoMORE tickets without bouncing between apps.*
There is no casual way to explain Chris Fleming to someone who hasn’t seen Chris Fleming. Let’s skip that part. The comedian hits the Balboa Theatre on 11/19, and I’m giving away tickets. Try your luck!*
MUSIC FOR YOUR EARS: SPOOKY EDITION
The aux has been seasonally possessed. 👻 This week, everyone dropped a song that feels spooky, witchy, creepy, or just spiritually correct for the final days of October.
Interpretations of “spooky” vary wildly around here.

MUSIC BOX IS THE SH*T
One thing about Music Box, they will absolutely give you a reason to go out on a random weeknight. This independent venue has that sweet spot of feeling intimate without feeling tiny, with three levels, multiple hangout spots + a room that works just as well for discovering someone new as it does for seeing a favorite up close.
And the calendar stays dangerously tempting. There’s a ton coming up, from artists you already love to shows you’re about to become annoying about.
While you’re browsing, pay attention. We may or may not have made it very possible to win your way into a bunch of them.*
